to a guy talking about a pile of crap?

I konw this is gonna sound gruesome to you, but here in America we are capitalists and when you start a business you do so to make money. Cause if you wanted to start a charity you can do that too. Well Mr. Gates does give away more than most charites take in a year.
I think any company would grow as big as they can, cause they all do. Time Warner and that beatrice group or whatever that owns every household product sold in America. And don't forget AT&T. Owned everyone's butt at one time. There wasn't even a choice there if you wanted phone service, you got them or nothing in all 50 states I believe. In the meanwhile they took a bunch of that crooked, dirty money that they overcharged you or your momma and papa and granny and granpa with and sure as you please, they designed and constructed Unix. I would not base a system on it cause of all that dirty business stuff. It makes me bitter and I know there are systems better that that, like Windows. They did it the old fashioned way from the ground up. Sure they'll never be as big as AT&T once was, or is becoming again, but they do offer one helluva great unified, integrated system with great support, mostly for free on the internet. When we replace our Unix system with Windows in 1999 we saw our trouble calls almost vanish and productivity became measurably bettet housewide. It seems fashionable to bash MS repeatedly (which i think is a secret form of love hiding in your heart) but from a programmer's perspective, just look at Office 2003 alone. Under the covers there was so much added there a developer had almost endless new technology to work with. And most basher said it was nothing more than a minor upgrade. I've even heard people say not much change since '97. They obviously don't work with the object models and tools available for Office or anything I'd guess. I've tried to find time to work with Vista and Office 12 and WWF/WCF et al and from what little I've seen this is another quantum leap in possibilities for programmers and users alike. Its' just software....so what if you are "locked" in. If you want MS, then you'll just know you've got a solid company behind you and in the end you will most likely save money once all costs are totalled.
