FREE is not always FREE for a reason
When you enter into a business, you enter it for a reason and that is to make a profit. All great products usually start out free and then when the company feels that it has established a good enough impression it turns to make profit. McAfee was free at one point and then look what happened. It became one of the most profitable companies in America just by charging for updates and then the whole software package. Beware of something that claims to be completely free because it will be either a hitch or a headache at some point. It is not about Microsoft vs. Linux but like the IT_Guy said, Capitalism. Think RED HAT did not figure this thing out early in the game. That is why they are so profitable.
