Sun's DIH mentality
Sun has a DIH (Dont-Invent-Here) mentality. Check out Wikipedia if you have not heard of this before.

For example, Sun claims it supports OSS. In truth, Sun only supports OSS that it controls. OpenOffice committers have to sign special agreements that give Sun 100% control of all IP technology.

And any popular OSS API, framwork, or application is re-written by Sun and either bundled or packaged to compete. See JUnit, Log4J, Eclipse, or Struts for just a few examples. Sun developers keep spouting "competition is good" instead of heeding the calls from their OSS "rivals" to join up to make better products.

Sun is doomed. Java has dead-ended. Check out the .NET framework. If your a Java programmer, you can continue on with IKVM, a .NET port of Java. If your writing web apps, give Ruby a serious look. Don't count on Sun being around much longer.
