agree that there should be a much greater focus on establishing higher speed links for home users in North America.

However I just moved from Canada to Australia where there is a bizarre monopoly with only 1 telco (Telstra) owning most of the infrastructure. It is half owned by the government, thus explaining the strange nature of the situation. There has been no telco revolution here and Aussies get ripped off big time for high speed. It's 60-80 for a crappy connection capped at 1mbps. Not only do they cap the speed but they call it unlimited downloads and then limit the speed down to 64kps once you reach 6gb!! So Canada and the US with their 3Mbps unlimited downloads doesn't look so bad in comparison...
