dont listen to DonnieBoy as he gives,
only 2 parts of the MS software library. MS has made it to where they are on merits, (though a little monopoly doesn't hurt sometimes) as they make what people want, though DB wants you to believe otherwise.

MS and other companies like IBM have are in a position where they aren't going to disappear or go out of business at any time, and as for your open source concerns, money allways comes into play, so the US and other countries with proprietay software will add new revenue streams from Open Source in addittion to their software offerings.

Open source caters to the lowest common denominator in terms of functionality (in other words, what EVERYONE involved agrees on), where as propriatary apps are that for a reason: extended functionality, not a "lock in".

Case in point: WP Office is given away for free on many computers sold by the large companies, yet a great many people still pay extra for MS Office, even though WP can convert any previous Word file into WP. Why is that?

Open Source won't destroy any large company as it's only one segmant of a very large software industry.

Here in the US, we compete fair and square. No special treatment.  DonnieBoy | 03/13/06
