I'm glad you said it!
One could ponder, how much demand will there be for PC-based applications by 2006?

In the enterprise, the move is heavy toward portal /web-based systems, with the client directed mor toward the office suite and browser. We experienced the pain, cost and delays of porting from 3.1 to NT, and further incompatibilities in pondering 2000, to say nothing ofthe problem of dll clashes among the various client packages. With high speed LAN, it makes sense to administer a few servers, rather than many clients, and that is the wave.

At home, I have only myself as a model. But I also note that my family and I seem to make use of office, browser and little else, as opposed to the plethora of programs we had on our computers 10, or even 5, years ago. Apparently web sites provide a lot of whatever it is we want.

Okay, so the great next frontier is media integration. But isn't Microsoft staking out that territory for itself? That does leave, perhaps, archade games, but how many developers does that make room for?

Absent the next killer app, what will all these developers develop (and sell)?
