Bollognia Sandwitch or spaghetti with meatballs
``Along with the ability to design and build more complex
software using Web services, Whitehorse could help
Microsoft land larger deals, allowing the company to go
head-to-head with Java rivals, such as IBM, Sun
Microsystems and Oracle, to supply software to the most
demanding customers. ''

That's a really bold conclussion, i.e., wishful thinking. Why
would large data / storage centers switch to non-UNIX
solutions? Just to embark on the latest dreamware that runs
only PCs? This is beyond the wildest dreams of these
'brains' at Redmond.

`` No less important are Microsoft's plans to use
Whitehorse internally to make its own products--which
have suffered from security and quality problems--more
reliable. ''

That's a good one wink I sure hope that they will use their
own s/w internally. At least they will have to suffer equally
with all other people who are stuck using their beta
releases. That's the beginning of a lengthy punishment wink

``"This is a huge undertaking, and getting all of the
various teams coordinated in this fashion is unprecedented
for Microsoft," said Thomas Murphy, an analyst at the Meta
Group. ''

You mean, ... MS groups do not communicate or coordinate
well? That's a ... new one. Who would think that all the 100s
of groups that write code independently and only meet
once in a month to stich the Frankestein together do not
communicate well. I thought that all these efficient, reliable,
robust and secure s/w must be developed by closely
cooperating teams.

`` Microsoft said that modeling tools like Whitehorse make
it more likely that the programs built by developers will
match the requirements of business users. Often,
communication between programmers in information
technology departments and executives in business units is
fragmented, which can either cause delays or result in an
application that doesn't do what was intended, according to
Microsoft executives. ''

That is outstanding! A new tool to cure all illnesses and
correct all wrongs. I am sure that hiring trained IT
professionals is not importand any more: this super tool
will almost write the application on its own. I am sure this
highly intelligent tool will also be able to protect agains
dumb design decisions or improper development tactics.

I am sure bet that MS must have been using this magic tool
for several years now, since all the s/w that its engineers
develop, is so efficient, robust, extendable, secure and
upgrades so gracefully with changing requirements.

It is REAL FUNNY that MS is claiming it has s/w that makes
large scale s/w development easy. Looking at their tall piles
of trashworthy computing they have been generating over
the years, one would say that they have no clue about s/w
simple or complex.
