1) Java/J2EE is the clear leader in enterprise
"infrastructure" computing.
2) Microsoft is chasing Java.
3) Java/IBM are already way ahead of MS efforts.
4) The Java solution will run on Windows, Linux,
Unix and any future system that may be invented.
5) Microsoft is saying, "Hey, IBM and Java know
what they are doing. Let's copy them." True
innovators.
No shame in MS copying the Java model, but MS is
going to waste time reinventing what IBM already
has today.
MS is trying to appeal to the "infrastructure"
development community. This simply will never
happen. All serious enterprise software runs on
some type of UNIX. Banks, traffic light
systems, public waste systems, nuclear power
plants, internet routers, eBay, etc., etc.
Could you imaging an elevator running Windows?!
What would you do when it crashes? What would
you do when it is hacked? What would you do
when it gets a virus?
No. Java and UNIX/Linux are king for a reason.
If Microsoft wants to break into the market
they'll produce their products for UNIX, or wait
for Windows to prove a better security/stability
reputation over the next 20 years (don't hold
your breath).
Stick with Java and UNIX (Linux). You can't
loose.
