Quit dancing
Just come out and do it the way you want to, MS. Put the full version of Vista on the PC, then cripple it to the level you want. Then, as the suck...I mean customer uses their machine, throw ads at them every time they try something your crippled OS won't let them do telling them that if they fork over $150 (credit cards accepted) that MS' Instant Upgrade will immediately make the feature available over their internet connection.

When the suck...I mean customer forks over the money, you just send the little encrypted key that uncripples that portion of their software.

Rinse and repeat until the suck...I mean customer is bled white.
