I take it you haven't heard of the SCO lawsuit against IBM. We now know that anyone can round up some lawyers and file a lawsuit that basically says, "His stuff is mine" and the courts will entertain this as a serious proposition, no matter how silly the claim.

We're going to see more of these, because SCO has shown that you don't even need evidence to bring one of these suits, and the whole time it's going on the press will take you seriously no matter what dumbass thing you say, because you have a -- puff yourself up -- a LAWSUIT.

Just look at how ZDNet fawns over everything Darl McBride says. He says things that his own lawyers contradict in court the very next day, but the press prints it all anyway.

These fake lawsuits are much cheaper than hiring a serious PR firm to help you get your name in the paper. I can why Real would sue Microsoft. They'll get famous for this. They haven't been able to get famous in ten years, but this will do it.

We can thank SCO for demonstrating how the court system can be gamed to provide 'gravitas' to the most wild and crazy PR. There'e no question we'll be seeing more of this. Hell, I'll a law firm merges with a PR firm now and advertises itself as "one stop shopping" for lawsuit-powered PR campaigns.
