Why couldn't they...
have subscribed to MSDN Universal? Developers can get access to all of MS's APIs, OSes, and software, along with the (admittedly Windows Help style confusing) information on how to use them all. Sure, it costs $2500 a year, but Real Networks is a multi - million dollar company, and any company serious about making their software work with Windows should be a MSDN subscriber. I would think. How much cash are they now shelling out to lawyers now when they could have been out only $2500 x 10 or so years (plus they could get upgrade discounts and multi - year pricing advantages, etc). If they didn't, they should have; and if they did, they should have hired people with experience in Windows programming to tweak what they had. And listened to their customers a bit more. My opinion. For my part, I actually use Realplayer & like it, but for the mandatory ads on the free version (run by a file called tkbell.exe which lodges in your startup files somewhere in Win98 - use MSconfig after running Real to get it to stop running next time your system starts).
