The other companies
can as recreate a function that make searching faster as well. I understand that it would be nicer and cheaper if the function was documented and made availlable. But if not, they can buy the protocol at whatever price ms is willing to license it or if too expensive, create their own. If ms makes to hard for third parties to develop for windows, customers will not be happy and switch to another os provider who is more third party developer friendly.
