Yes, Linus Torvalds has been saying some rather regretable things lately.
And, don't forget the Bitkeeper fiasco.

But, like the previous poster said, the two desktops can feed off of each other and incorporate each others features. So, I may not like KDE, but I do like choices in the market, and the competition makes both of them better. And, of course Solaris and BSDs are pushing Linux.
