Proprietary drivers lead to the driver mess that is Windows. As someone who has an NVidia graphics card and also a wireless network card from another company, I appreciate these companies support for Linux but would much prefer to see the driver supported under the GPL. This would allow it to be included in each subsequent kernel release, saving me from having to update drivers with each update to the kernel.
When drivers aren't included as part of the kernel, I'm forced to reinstall the driver with each upgrade to the kernel.
Anyone who thinks Linux hardware support is shoddy, should install Windows and then install Linux. You'll soon realise that while Windows expects you to provide many of the drivers needed for your hardware, Linux supports the same hardware internally. - Posted by: mintSlice Posted on: 02/18/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
