Not going to fly
It's nice that Intel finally decided to ship a driver, but shipping a closed source driver isn't going to change my mind.

I've got machines with NVIDIA cards, and their Linux support is great! Even so, The kernels and drivers are released separately, and end-users have to integrate them. This has gotten much easier as NVIDIA has improved their installer, but there are still problems. Even something as simple as a default option change on their latest driver left folks thinking the driver was broken for some cards.

Having to handle the wireless card as an additional special case (with no support from the Open Source community), isn't going to do the job.

I've already decided that the default Open Source ATI drivers are good enough for the games I play, and won't be buying another NVIDIA card.

Ease of use is more important for some folks -- as well as corporations that have to manage the upgrades for many machines. Open Source operating systems are not the same as Windows. Solutions that seem OK in one environment are not OK in another.

For those that bought a machine with an Intel card, I suggest selling the card on EBay and replacing it with an Open Source supported card. Fewer headaches, better integration, community support. And the best part? After Intel decides that the card you have is "no longer supported" you will still have the source, and the community will keep it functioning (or you can do it yourself).
