Not paranoia anymore
In too many cases, the visas go to Third-World citizens who are more than willing to be underpaid to get the experience. I don't know too many Europeans thus far coming to the US for a pittance.

While most are just attempting to get a skill to take home, you cannot deny that there have been some that come over specifically to learn from the inside for not so noble purposes. Many of the terrorists have had Western educations, some in the United States. But back to the point...

The people of the United States are being told that there is no work for them, but then see the H-1B visa holders moving into the jobs the Americans were laid off from. Not exactly a good way to treat your own citizens, no matter what you may think you need for your company.

The latest trend for those who think a government job is the answer is subtle: Instead of paying a steady wage, the supervisor will get to determine whether you "deserve" one, no matter how high you rated. Seniority is on the block and the wages will be "market-based," but the pay scale is definitely on a par with the H-1B visa scales. There is a "take it or leave it" attitude here, complete with the loss of anything resembling fair play. Problem is, with all the losses in the private sector, there is no place to go if you leave. So everyone stays in whatever job they have, rabbitting on in hopes their job doesn't go contract.

No wonder people get p*ssed!
