In my opinion, yes they have. The cost of SAP goes not only to the corporate coffers, but also to researching SAP alternatives to Open Source and integrating Open Source - in a more joined-up manner - this lets the business get on with using it without to much cost in developing the interfaces and commonality you require for business life.
