The penguins will overcome
Windows is inherently complex and therefore prone to security
problems and (still) affords far too many opportunities for the
clueless to screw it up, BUT it runs on a wide selection of very
affordable hardware with a wide customer base!
Mac OS 10 is slick, self-contained (lots of apps come
bundled with it-at least if you buy it with a machine), almost
crash-proof, and clue-less friendly (aren't computers supposed
to be?); BUT you pay through the nose for the admittedly high
quality, but still overpriced, hardware!
Is there a compromise? You bet your penguins! Desktop linux
is the answer. Not quite yet, but its getting there. MS is right to
be concerned. With a bit more idiot-proofing, standardization
and polish, Linux-based systems will provide the best of both
worlds, and at a fraction of the cost of either.
