Wow, Mike, you're not acting like a leader

Sorry to say it, Mike, but you really have some personal issues to deal with. mySQL is fine. So is Access. But mySQL handles more data than Access and allows for multiple users. SQL Server is actually a great product but its hard to justify $4000 to hold a million rows of sample data for development. This is even more an issue if every developer needs its own data set.

Honestly, you're company is looking to save money. That's what you have to contend with. If you can't save them money they will find someone who can. If MS had it their way, you'd be fired and they would be handling your job with their team of experts.

So you can fight against the tide or you can put together a solution to show how you can save the company money. If its using MS products and you can realize the savings they'll sing your praise. What I'm reading is deperation, and that usually comes right before the realization that you're wrong. Go back and do some number crunching, regardless of technology, and prove "A" point, not "your" point. The best technology leaders find solutions instead of push propaganda. Who knows, you may be the leader who leads your company into millions in savings, which may include a big bonus and/or promotion (MS or not).

Be a leader, Mike, and find a solution that shows the greatest gain with the fewest conditions (ie, risks). If you're leadership still wants to make a change then you should consider yourself side-stepped. That usually means your weight is actually very small in the scheme of things. If you're comfortable in that role, fine. Otherwise, you could always apply at Microsoft.
