He like to tout FreeBSD, and certainly that is an excellent open source project with no ties to Linux.


Loverrock is following the Microsoft line: FreeBSD and Apache license is good and GPL is bad. That is why he pushes FreeBSD so often. Has nothing to do with him using it or liking it. Go ahead and ask him a FreeBSD question if you want to see what Im talking about.


Also he seems to concede that open source is the best option for people who speak uncommon languages (by uncommon I mean few people speak them).


No, uncommon means "languages not spoken by developed countries particular to Europe and North America". Population is not a factor. If it were there would be more software titles written in Chinese as compared to English.

Loverrock will also never concede to people using open source software that is not FreeBSD or Apache license. Anything that even looks like GPL will send him into convulsions. Microsoft cannot "consume" GPL licenses so they are considered undesireable.
