A "kernel....Oops" is very rare in a well configured environment with a kernel considered stable. You are sure it isn't a hardware failure? If you are able to reproduce a kernel crash, please take the trouble of submitting a bug report.

I am not saying I try everything out which can be done with a gnu/linux OS; But a rightout crash of the OS is something I've only experienced with experimental kernel version.

Crap applications crashing is something which does happen, things that can be archieved with every OS. But also then, tracking and filing the bug is important, because otherwise developers could be unaware that the failure excist.
