Tried to test this
I turned on Messenger, don't need it so it is always off, then I logged on to AOL. Then I logged off, then repeated that process. It's on my system for other users.

Both times I checked the services and Messenger is still alive. What's up with that if AOL is turning it off? Is it a certain version of AOL that does this? Of course I know the reason. I do not run with administrator rights at home. Thus it could not stop the service. Those of us who do take precautions like that won't be affected. Those who do not are the ones that might need assistance. I don't necessarily agree with them for just turning it off but I do agree that it is something they should do. I have had to shut down Messenger for several people who use AOL who don't want their kids getting pr0n spam via messenger.
