The real problem with MS
Ok MS heads, you can cheer when I say that MS has a decent OS. It's really not bad considering all the things it tries to do. The problem isn't the OS, its the company. You can't win being an MS developer. Why? As I've said many times before, if you build an app that's really cool they will steal it. The only development you can do is custom work that's too small for them to make a dollar. And if they decide to suddenly change directions and your software doesn't work then that's just too bad.

Why do you think China and Europe is quickly moving to Linux? Its not like they are saying 'this OS sucks.' Its because they are saying 'the company that owns the OS sucks me dry then steals my ideas.'

And what about all the advocates that say MS software is cheaper (such as SQL Server compared to Oracle)? Look at the books and you'll find that MS looses tons of money on everything except the OS and Office. How much longer do you think stock holders are going to let the stock price remain stagnant? MS is going to have to raise the price of its losing wares or bump up the OS/Office costs. (BTW, Oracle is dropping its price considerably this time around).

Something will have to break in the next three years. MS can't squeeze anymore blood from its OS/Office divisions. The idea that .Net will be a new cashcow has proven false. They have to keep the price down to compete with Java. How long do you seriously think a for-profit company can keep giving away the next great thing until one day they just kill themselves?
