distro confusion for the masses
Its good to see linux is advancing and that a lot of work is going in to each new kernel.

One concern I have, however, is that the number of linux distros, and "variations" of distro's reminds me of the unix worlds tendency to fragment things into a million variations.

If the linux community ever has hopes to get windows users or even Apple users to migrate to linux, to possibly make it a standard on the desktop (for regular users not power users) then they need to move away from the habit of breaking linux up into various varitaions and giving it silly marketing names. Just call it Linux version "".

Its fine if Linux has Suse, or Red Hat, or mandrake etc. but when you market the product make sure you market it as "company" linux on kernel version "".

Not all this silly naming and version variations. I mean in the end, the only real difference I notice about the different ditros of linux is the installer (some better then others) and the gunk of freeware that comes on the disc.

Of course that excludes variants like Lindows that are a bit different all together.
