File Swapping Lawsuits in Canada
I must admit that I have downloaded Music Files from the Internet, but I was and still am under the impression that this is not illegal in Canada.

Furthermore I have only recently become aware that while downloading may not be illegal, apparently sharing is. Consequently I no longer share these files. Why would I want to give these people free exposure.

As far as the artist or the Music industry losing money by me downloading Music, that not the case, as this is not something that I would spend my money on. It was just something to do while online.

The Music industry may indeed be able to seriously curtail downloading and sharing, but I doubt that this will lead to an increase in their profits.

I personally thing the actions of the RIAA, CRIA and others of their persuasion are reprehensible, and certainly not the way to win customers.

Frankly I have bought a quite a number of CD/Records/Tapes in the past, as have my family. But I absolutely refuse to purchase any product that restricts my use of that product in anyway ie. DRM etc. Consequently I am committed to not purchasing any Music from any artist, Company or Group, that is in any way associated with the RIAA or CRIA.

I believe most people who download or share files have no idea whether those files are copyrighted or not, and before the RIAA or CRIA is allowed to sue anybody, they should be obliged to prove that they have digitally encoded the copyright notification on these files, so that this would be evidenced when anyone tried to download the file. Frankly if it were, I believe most people would choose to end the download and allow them to have their copyright, but the copyright would not guarantee them exposure or sales.
