File-swapping lawsuits loom in Canada

Logging IP is expensive to give out: Why would they be suprised? Maybe it's because they have no idea what they are talking about. Logs take up space. If the logs have no value such as DHCP logs then they are deleted. No large corporation is going to waste hardware resources keeping logs that have no value assuming they even have logging turned on.

Also the work involved alone in searching for a single IP address is not easy especially if sometime has passed, like a week. This one of the reasons it's so hard to track down hackers and those people that release viruses. If it was as easy as the CRIAA thinks it is we would have hackers or virus writers, they'd all be in prison.
