you are completely wrong
You MUST be either a complete idiot or you've never really used a linux or unix box. The windows registry is useful for absolutely nothing at all, except that windows has been built around it so as far as they're concerned it's indispensible. All it does is keep records of all software that has ever been installed on a computer, hide configuration information from the user, and keep the hood of windows "welded shut" as they say. What makes you think that a relatively high-performance hierarchical database is something that could not have been created in Linux years ago, if it made any sense to do so? And just to point out that your view is completely backwards, maybe it would interest you to know there is a /etc on windows, complete with services and hosts (and a few others)... check out C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc .

To call the source code to windows the "Crown jewels of Computing" is laughable. The source code to an operating system such as OpenBSD, GNU/Linux or MacOS is far, far more valuable to the computing industry than, imho, the windows source tree ever will be. These operating systems are developed by the BEST software engineers that this planet has ever seen (Theo De Raadt, Linus Torvalds, Alan Cox to name a few), and their sole goal as a group is to create better software than was previously available. Perhaps you could explain to us how it is that a company with the only goals of market dominance and revenue generation can compete with that model.

And one last thing you are wrong about, is that SCO has been robbed blind by the Linux community. You need to do some reading, pal, because the fact is they are losing their court case. They are losing it because they cannot identify ANY source code, which is original to them, which made its way into the Linux kernel. Linux has derivative works from many places, including some of the same ones that SCO UNIX and Caldera Linux have (thank you Novell), but that by no means says that SCO wrote that code or has any claim to it, and their legal battle is hellbound for just that reason.

You are sorely misinformed and it may do you well to keep your nonsensical opinions inside of your apparently semi-functional head.
