A correction to your correction
You said; "Yes, they believe they have reason to "kvetch". The argument is they were unfairly excluded from consideration."

They were not excluded at all. MA specified Open Document Format. MS chose to not include an export to that format in their new offerings. All they would have to do is throw in that export and there would be no problem for them.
