It is strange that
peope can receive a patent on a piece of code. One can patent innovative solution approaches to an existing problem.

It is like trying to patent a specific manoevre while you drive a car.

Copyright, yes. Patent? What are the benefits of it besides the royalties? Unless MS plans to let other people develop good solutions for their XML docs and then buy them out to `incorporate' their technology.
