The $40 billion is certainly a tool
But the leadership have failed to share their vision with the public. Denial won't work forever. So I guess a lot of us are waiting to see where they want to fit in, what they will offer.

You know used to be, Microsoft's strategy seemed to be to make its technology available to the world - compete everywhere. All MS tools were available on CP/M, I think Apple, TRS-80, Micropolis, etc. Then with IBM's entry into the market that changed. Not overnight, perhaps, but it certainly has migrated there - the other side of the Great Wall. Sure, I would like to be able to consider the company's self-vaunted technologies, but they rule themselves out of contention. Yeah, that $40 billion could make some great product - let us have it!
