Know what? I'll back off.
I know that I and other visitors were not trated nicely by the French in the mid-60s and that we regularly had problems with DeGaulle and his successors over NATO. A trip to Tahiti in 1975 was not made any more pleasant by the French-speaking folk there. And the apparent animosity of the French to Americans was frequently alluded to in news articles, variety shows and the like.

But it wasn't until I saw your post that I realized I'm holding on to a decades-old impression. I haven't personally seen or heard accounts that would reinforce those impressions for some time. You and others posting here are much more current and if the situation is different than it was in my day, we are all the better for it.

Hope you're correct and thanks.
