PocketPC and Windows Mobile
Are those both Windows Powered aka Windows CE?
I had the very first Windows CE (really rubbish), and then later, a
shiny Compaq IPAQ which was nice, but useless (battery life).
I then realised PDAs were useless for all practical purposes, and
so apparently did the market, which AFAIK is in a tailspin for
some years.
I'm guessing Windows Mobile is a cellphone technology which
sounds like it's attract the same problems as Blackberry.

I'm not against Microsoft products, after all I'm writing product
in Visual Studio (for Windows XP of course, since no-other
operating system is compatible), and that's great. I like Visual
Studio.

But I also like writing stuff for Unix and Linux, and Java. It's
just... well different. I haven't done much GUI stuff for OSX yet,
but I like OSX.

Apple made a decent music/video distribution system, and have
cleaned up to date in online sales. The first system I used was
MSN Music (I think that's the name), which was DREADFULL. The
DRM is just too ******* painful.

Personally I think Microsoft has trouble ahead: I think the Mac
and Sony will power ahead this year, and Google will spike MS in
all sorts of ways too. Also Mandriva Linux and others are coming
close to OSX-u-likeness in Linux.

IOW microsoft have made serious attempts to enter other
markets, but in my opinion, have failed to succeed. Now they
might suffer the fate of all one-product corporations ("the
desktop" aka Windows + Office), with spiralling (down) sales.

Part of the reason for failure to enter other markets, is that
Microsoft relies too much on heavy tactics, like having paid
evangelists.
