The Fallacy of Lifetime Support
"On the contrary, upgrades are optional because Oracle offers lifetime support for its current generation of products, they said."

"Lifetime" - It's such an easy thing to say, because Oracle knows that customers will face so many other technical requirement hurdles to keeping an older version of their software in use: the OS it was released for will stop receiving support from its vendor, various 3rd party apps that are bundled with the product will no longer be viable, security and performance will become issues as newer technologies bypass the old standards, etc.

Make no mistake - you are forced to change, but at least you don't have to do it immediately. But make sure you understand that the "lifetime" referred to is the components' lifetime, and not yours. wink
