First of all, Red Hat is one of the distro makers and is not the "Linux, Inc.". Second, it seems that the article really meant about SWsoft wanting to include OpenVZ as a part of major distros as I don't see the point of have it as an offical part of the kernel itself.

Red Hat, SuSE (Novell), and the kernel are all described as parts of Linux, Inc., and not Red Hat alone.

A product potentially benefitting all of Linux has to use a roundabout method of inclusion. The approach described sounded to me like what happens when a single company has broken into independent fiefdoms.

I took the word of the SWsoft employee that the kernel has to be changed in order to make OpenVZ work as well as it should. Please see the first quote given.

Incorporating the needed changes into the two commercial distributions was a fallback when the kernel could not be modified as hoped.
