I can't stand it when people try to make these guys out to be folk heros. This has nothing to do with a delusional vision of fighting some great "evil" in WA or CA. The motivation is the same old thing; arrogance and ego. These guys want attention and they get it today more than ever. Just read a few issues of 2600 and you can see the typical attitude of the technology empowered adolescent. In the old days we had graffiti and toilet papering a house, today we have worms and viruses. In addition, as another poster mentioned, some of this may have more nefarious roots in criminal enterprise.
It's just so tiresome to hear the masses of anti-Microsoft zealots preach their tired litany of Microsoft "reaping what they have sown".
Some day Linux will probably have a market share making it worthy of being a target and the Linux exploits will come en masse. What will you ideolgical extremists say then?
