disable MS updates
I'm (still) running windows 2000 SP2 on my home machine, which contains all my important files and work. I've had updates disabled for few years now. I haven't done any updates, critical or otherwise in as long a period. I use the machine to do my work and use the internet to a strict list of websites I know are safe. With a firewall, AV, anti adware, spyware etc, things are running smooth.

I keep a cheap laptop to surf more freely that I don't care if I have to rebuild every now and then.

I've decided to discontinue SP installations and updates after MS update screwed my machine and had to do a fresh install few years ago. Disable and don't use updates.
