The problem is everyone's fault
Computer stupidity is everyone's fault - from the user to the support person. User's have failed to take responsibility to educate themselves and support personnel have failed to foster an environment that encourages users to learn and practice safe computing practices. I know, I work in a large technical support call center and I hear all the techs talk to users in condescending tones. Companies are tired of users calling the Helpdesk with avoidable issues, wasting time and money and techs are tired of cleaning up the avoidable messes. Techs want to spend time doing meaningful support but instead 85% of the issues they deal with are firedrills. This costs companies alot of money in wasted time and productivity. This is exactly why companies are offshoring IT support jobs. It's cheaper and the users will stop calling the Helpdesk because they can't reach someone who can speak English. THERE, problem solved people.
