Ironically, it's the opposition to Microsoft...
... that made this issue so significant. Think of the comments by Mr. Berlind and others announcing this decision was an important event.

I think Microsoft was surprised. The company may have limited the resources available in MA to respond to events in the decision process because the people involved didn't see a problem.

Mr. Quinn created the situation that was so problematic for him. And those who supported him made it impossible for the reaction to diminish.

Thre are lessons for Microsoft's antagonists to learn from what happened in MA.
