The EU is more socialistic. Europe invented the concept.
The gov't did subsidize Boeing's R&D on their military contracts, but that knowledge gained could be used on civilian airliners. However dealing with any patents afterwards would be messy. Since the gov't financed it it should get the royalties thru a lower price from the company. But Airbus is funded directly by the EU. 1/3 of the cost is admitted. I wonder how much more was done thru R&D like I mentioned and those companies now added to their patent portfolio.
