Devilish Chat. Barrett is a God!
"Overall, the process of using the documentation is an absolutely frustrating, time-consuming and ultimately fruitless task."

Consider the possibility that this isn't by design but really indicates that everyone worth their dollar involved in prior Windows products, has left Microsoft. Until management starts seeing that company value is in its coding talent, and code library, rather than in its legal department, the company will be in decline.

In a software house, just like at a legal firm, the source of value is in the human resources and the documentation. If you can't keep them, you can not continue to provide value.

Software is not like films where once the product has been shown, the folks who produced it can disbanded. It requires ongoing support, the kind of support you get with open source and industry standard practices.

Why would anyone purchase a car without the ability to look at and dismantle and reassemble the engine? Why would any honest company not provide documentation on how to do that? What code is in the operating system products that Microsoft doesn't want any one to see?

Well the Tunny documents show that there was code whoes purpose was to slow down competing products, such as Lotus. There was even a slogan at Microsoft - the coding job isn't done until Lotus will not run. Thats a criminal culture.

Do you all remember Gates comparing Windows Code to the secrete formula used in Coke-a-Cola. He was on crack that day;>) Note smiley. Gates actually believed that government had no right to look at what went into his companies software because he thought the FDA did not have a right to look at what the ingredients used in Coke-a-Cola were. Those ingedients at one time actually included cocain.

The public wealfare is protected by governement. This applices to food products and to software.
