Wrong company
--- His position at IBM got outsourced---

I am more inclined to believe MS threatened to outsource his (shilling) job if he didn't start becoming more of an agitator.

If this case ends with SCO losing everything too soon MS is liable to lose more business than they can bear. As things stand now there are many conservative companies afraid to try Linux. Their L6 from MS is getting close to it's end. If they are still afraid they will go ahead and sign with MS again. If the way is cleared with a reasonable guarantee of no more SCOs in the future many of them will seriously consider Linux and some will move. When too many companies report their successes with Linux MS will be doomed to competing on their merits instead of using the usual bully tactics they are so famous for. In other words, MS will have to be an order of magntude better for CIOs to be able to justify the enormous expense. If that does not happen then MS will be forced to lower prices to compete which will result in shareholders losing too much money. Shareholders will start their exodus from MS because when shareholders start to lose, shareholders take their money and go somewhere else.

MS future, to a great extent, is dependent on the outcome of this litigation. Right now it does not look good. Their next best hope is to be able to goad OSS supporters into taking dumb actions that may reflect badly on the entire community. Just plain, old fashioned, American political mud-slinging. If you don't have a product to sling, sling mud. It's worked for politicians for many years. MS hopes to give it a whirl.

It won't work, of course for a couple reasons. 1) not enough OSS supporters will be dumb enough to fall for this. Probably in excess of 99.999% of OSS supporters ignore both SCO and MS and, 2) MS has not yet figured out how to compete with OSS. The corporate mindset is still too entrenched in stealing, copying, or buying. None of which will work. MS is in a game they cannot possibly win for one simple reason. MS software is not now nor will it be, in the foreseeable future, good enough for anyone to be able to justify the unconscionable expense and restrictions. In a company with more than a few hundred desktops, a full-time employee is required just to maintain licenses. I wonder if MS included that in their (fraudulent) TCO claims?
