Microsoft hires user interface guru

He's got no sense of design AT ALL

Come off it, we don't need flashy animations to make things
look good, but looking at this guys website makes me realise he
has no design sense whatsoever.
His site is cluttered and poorly structured. He is described as a
user interface 'guru' yet makes no allowance for those viewing
his site at a low screen resolution. His page is over 900 pixels
wide meaning the 30 or so percent of people still using 800x600
displays will have to scroll vertically AND horizontally to view his
information.
Screen size apart, this site looks like something from 1996. I
seen the same thing with that other 'guru' Jakob Neilson. I
listened to him ranting on about usability and good design only
to visit his site and be completely shocked at how poorly
designed and completely unappealing it was (prepare yourself,
this guy is very highly regarded http://www.useit.com ).
Why do we listen to these people, they obviously don't live in the
real world where you actually have to try to make things look
'impressive' in order to get noticed and therefor bought or sold.
