This kind of scheme certainly works!
This kind of scheme certainly works!

If used only by a small percentage of email users, it will not have an effect on "burden placed on ISP". If a majority of email users will use this kind of scheme it will greatly affect spammers: now they need to send millions of messages to have enough responses to be profitable. If most addresses will be unusable to them they'll have to send billions of messages, and this will be impossible for them, so the whole spamming business model collapses.

I have been using this kind of scheme using a combination of spamgourmet.com, sneakemail.com and fastmail.fm. Haven't got a single spam (except few at some self distructing spamgourmet addresses, so I didn't even have to click a button to block an address to stop further spam from coming) My setup has much more flexibility than the zoEmail setup, but then needs some thinking. sneakemail.com gives the disposable email addresses management in a folder tree structue. spamgourmet.com gives one-time self distructing addresses that can be generated without going online. Fastmail.FM gives me subdomain addresses that can be used as disposable addresses with people I trust more (and that look like ordinary email addresses - no codes!) and it also gives me what is probably the most powerfull webmail interface there is, IMAP access (and POP to paying customers).

The advantage of zoEmail is putting it all in one place and providing some controls that can be used by users that are not technically inclined. For power users combinations of existing services are much better and more flexible. zoEmail cannot be used except with their webmail and their domain. Other solutions can be used with any domain, and with existing email clients. For the zoEmail concept to work (management from the mail reading interface) it should be incorporated in Outlook Express and other major email client software. (I have already recommended this in the past on zdnet talkback several times, and also on emaildiscussions.com, that has quite a lot of advice on how to use email and how to avoid spam).
