I agree, the fine is merely a formality.
And yet i disagree, I think the unbundling issue is only a small prize.
What if this is just the opportunity that the SK government has been looking for to establish some measure of a peer relationship with what they obviously would see as the worlds biggest player? Namely to become a peer, with the right to bargain with the U S of A?
I have gained another level of respect for the SK government, they have chosen a more intelligent approach to freedom. Unlike say, Iran.
The Iranians are testing their position as an international power by raising the issue of their right to develop a nuclear power technology. This is so much more dangerous, as we can say that it's for a weapons program. A very fine line the Iranians must walk to show that they have as much right as the US to pursue their own growth, without our interference.
The South Koreans strategy is a much more peacful approach. If the suit is lost with no settlements gained, then it's business as usual.
But if they win anything, they should win the right to fair settlements and in a small way, they gain the right to govern their economy without US influence.
Personally, I'm hoping to see a korean version of Win$'s. I bet it would see a rapidly growing purchase level! And why couldn't the executive level of Microsoft see the possibility to make more money by requiring users of Korean Win$'s to have to purchase the add-ons to stay compatible.
