Nothing is going to happen!
Nothing is going to happen. The reason is because our say does not matter. In the end the consumer votes with the pocket book. Reasoning with somebody; Job = Cost of Shoes 400 USD or Maybe or find your own job = Cost of Shoes 50 USD. The low cost of shoes wins everytime.

Other jobs will open up. Everyone talks about flipping burgers. Is that so bad? Think hard, sure there are people working to flip burgers, but there are managers, truckers that bring the ingredients, companies that design and build the CUSTOM to order machines to flip the burgers, etc, etc.

Think about Krispy Kreme, who designs inhouse all of their machines to keep their competitive advantage. Krispy Kreme just went to the UK exporting American built machines to the UK.

Sure IT jobs are screwed, but maybe this is the time that people start thinking about other jobs and retraining.
