I missed those.

Fox had a series of specials going: "Caught on Video: When Enterprise-Wide Patches Go Wrong!" that kept me glued to the set, so I missed the Newshour last couple of evenings. Yep, that Tom Lehrer has the best opening monologue of any of the network newscasters. Still, I miss those halcyon* days when he and Robin MacNeil were a team and used to deliver 15-minute stand-up bits on nuclear proliferation and U.N. Security Council brouhahas that would have me rolling on the floor in stitches.

Say what you will about your Tom Brokaws, your Dan Rathers, your Peter Jennings's, your Anna Fords (BBC)...for my money there was no funnier stuff in the news biz than MacNeil and Lehrer riffing on geopolitics.

Oh, wait--I'm thinking of Jim Lehrer. Is Tom Lehrer as funny as Jim Lehrer?
