Ouch!
I hope I'm not one of those "dinosaurs" you speak of. If you are referring to the legislators and regulators, I don't think they should get involved in what are essentially marketplace decisions (I'm not talking about Justice's anti-trust division, which should be looking into interference with the marketplace). Granted, other national governments are making policy to correct past imbalances (I see this rather like "affirmative" action), but it's hard to keep a balance that way and maybe not the best approach for our form of government.

Those of us responsible for acquiring computers and systems to serve you have to look at cost/benefit. And just as corporate America is facing up to economic downturn, we are confronted with massive deficits, and every dollar scrutinized. We can't continue to tell a major program manager that his priority program has to go on hold so we can spend millions (yes, it adds up when you have a lot of desktops) just to retain licenses - in Patton's terms, "paying for the same real estate twice."

We have IGs and auditors to answer to. That factor "encouraged" the server migration. The same pressures are compelling us to consider desktop alternatives when we invest your dollars in an honest attempt to serve you best. Please go a little easier on us dinosaurs.
