No would would buy them?
Possibly true. But how about "no one will buy them"?

We could take my organization, as an example. No, historically a daunting user interface, essential client software specialized to a specific platform, insufficient pool of qualified support people have locked us in. But the interface is vastly improved, systems are being converted to web-enabled, and the critical mass of Linux people is emerging in support of the server conversion. We have piloted Linux desktop with several offices, and the user base is quite satisfied (actually neutral - no clear preference either way).

We have new-this-week direction to find several tens of millions in savings for each of the next couple of fiscal years. We can't immediately move the entire organization, because some legacy applications won't be converted until their major upgrade schedules, and those that have a supported version of Windows have no need to migrate. But spending on new Windows licenses might not be the responsible move.

And I have subjected myself to the test, using SuSE 8.2, Open Office and Mozilla. I am an above-average-demanding user, as much of my writing incorporates illustrations, graphs, etc, to help get a point across. Open Office takes care of what I do (with a nod to the gamers, who do have specialized needs).

It comes down to the value proposition, and the way things are going, the value clearly ain't with Windows. Unless something dramatic happens to disturb current trends, yes someone will buy them.
