One city's move to open source
One city's move to open source will be one city's failure. I'm eagerly awaiting for this disaster to come to fruitation like so many other linux migrations before it. What actually makes them think they will succeed? Of particular interest was this quote to me:

"We want to decide our IT strategy in Mannheim, and not have Microsoft make the decision for Mannheim,"

First off, if they were letting someone other than their own IT department make decisions then they are incompetent to begin with and probably lack the skills to make their own decisions. Secondly are we to believe that they only use strictly Microsoft products? I find this very hard to believe as every company I worked for had a Microsoft and non-Microsoft products, once again its blame the big bad wolf and single out only Microsoft.

I'm looking forward to reading about how their trials have failed, productivity has gone down, and high turnover rate of employees for not having the right tool for the job. Then I can come back and say "I told you so!" Don't say I didn't warn you.
