Perhaps you're not so welcome in the computer industry
"Hey, I have a 128 bit OS I've been working on but it's never been released. My point: if it's never released it don't mean sh*t."

Um, Microsoft Windows NT 64-bit was released back in the 90s. In fact, I was on a development team that released software on that platform. Your ignorance is showing.

"That's great! And they're only what, the LARGEST software company in the world..coming in virtual last place!"

Last place compared to what? As I said, MS released 64-bit Windows last decade, not to mention the 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Server that are shipping TODAY for Itanic systems. (I think 64-bit Win2K came out in 2000? 2001? Can't remember exactly when, but a few years ago.)

AFAIK, Apple *still* has yet to release a 64-bit OS. (Admittedly not an Apple expert, though.)

"Um, 64 bit linux is not recent. Who's "welcoming" who here?!???..."

As I said, I'm not sure at what point Linux was running on 64-bit systems. I don't even know when Linux was created. If it was originally an x86 OS, then Windows certainly beat Linux to 64-bit. If Linux originally came out with support for MIPS, Alpha, etc, etc then it's possible 64-bit Linux was out before Windows NT.

However, you seem to be referring to the recent events of Linux supporting AMD64 chips. Didn't they just ship like a year ago? Those are the recent events.

Windows was 64-bit loooooooooong before AMD64 was even invented.
